Description

Betulin is a pentacyclic triterpene found in birch bark. This compound can induce apoptosis and inhibit angiogenesis, lending it a wide variety of functions, including anticancer, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, antioxidative, and antibacterial roles. Betulin is hepatoprotective as well, as it suppresses symptoms of ethanol-induced fatty liver by inhibiting acidophilic necrosis; it also prevents liver fibrosis by inhibiting production and migration of ROS.
