4-Phenylbutyl isothiocyanate (ITC) is a synthetic ITC that exhibits anticancer chemotherapeutic and chemopreventive activities. In vitro, this compound induces caspase 3-dependent apoptosis. 4-Phenylbutyl isothiocyanate inhibits the development of pancreatic dysplasia and adenocarcinoma in animal models; in other animals, it decreases the number of already formed lung tumors. Like other ITCs, this compound also acts as a phase II enzyme inducer.
