Description
Kanamycin B is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds the bacterial 16s rRNA subunit, inhibiting translocation and degrading target RNA; it displays antibacterial efficacy against gram negative bacteria. Kanamycin also inhibits formation of the initiation complex. In cardiac pacemaker cells, kanamycin B decreases action potential amplitude, blocking slow Ca2+ currents and modulating outward K+ currents. Kanamycin B also inhibits mammalian RNA splicing.
