Description

Scopolamine is a tropane alkaloid found in Solanaceae family plants that exhibits antiemetic and anticholinergic activities. Scopolamine inhibits muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) with a moderate selectivity for M1 mAChRs. Scopolamine is used to induce cognitive deficits in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, scopolamine displays some antidepressant activity and has previously been used in the treatment of organophosphate poisoning.
