Description

Thioctic/lipoic acid is an endogenous organosulfur that exhibits antioxidative activity. This compound is commercially used as a dietary supplement and can be found in meat and leafy vegetables. Thioctic/lipoic acid is required for aerobic metabolism and functions as a cofactor for the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex. In vitro, this compound increases activation of phase II enzymes and scavenges ROS and RNS, protecting against oxidative stress.
