Praziquantel is an anti-parasitic/anti-helminthic that is commonly used to treat schistosomiasis. Praziquantel increases membrane permeability, altering intracellular Ca2+ levels and inducing neuromuscular paralysis in parasites. Praziquantel may inhibit adenosine uptake and voltage-gated Ca2+ channels. In animal models, praziquantel reverses Schistosoma-induced hypertension and vascular remodeling.
