Description
Corosolic acid is a pentacyclic triterpene extracted from the leaves of Lagerstroemia speciosa. Corosolic acid exhibits antioxidative, anti-diabetic, anti-atherosclerotic, and anticancer activities in vitro and in vivo. This compound decreases blood sugar and increases glucose uptake in vivo, and decreases overall cholesterol levels potentially through inhibition of cholesterol acyltransferase. In lung adenocarcinoma cells, corosolic acid increases reactive oxygen species and induces caspase-mediated apoptosis; it also inhibits activation of STAT3, NF-kB activity, and MCP-1.
