7,8-Dihydrokawain is a kavalactone originally found in Piper methysticum (kava plant) that exhibits neuroprotective activity. 7,8-Dihydrokawain activates Nrf2 in neurons and astroglia, protecting against amyloid-β (Aβ)-induced neurotoxicity.
