Description
Flavopiridol hydrochloride is a plant-derived semisynthetic flavone that acts as a cycline-dependent kinase inhibitor. Flavopiridol was found to induce apoptosis in chronic lymphocytic leaukemia cells in vitro, but significant toxicity has prevented further development as a single agent treatment. A combination treatment using cytarabine and mitoxantrone in addition to flavopiridol against acute myeloid leukemia in vivo has also been evaluated. Further studies have found flavopiridol to elicit anti-inflammatory activity via CDK9 and NFkB-dependent signaling.
