Description

Olopatadine hydrochloride is an antihistamine clinically used to treat allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis. This compound acts as a mast cell stabilizer, preventing histamine and TNF-α release from mast cells. Olopatadine is also an antagonist at histamine H1/2/3 receptors, although it is selective primarily for H1 receptors over other subtypes. Additionally, olopatadine suppresses allergy-related increases in substance P, NGF, and VEGF.
