Description

Ganciclovir is a guanosine nucleoside analog that exhibits antiviral activity. Ganciclovir is clinically used to treat cytomegalovirus infection; it inhibits viral DNA polymerase and acts as a chain terminator when incorporated into DNA, limiting DNA synthesis. Ganciclovir is often co-administered with HSV thymidine kinase gene therapy as a sensitizer.
