Description

Oxytocin is an endogenous peptide neurohormone that does not cross the blood-brain barrier. Oxytocin binds the oxytocin receptor (OXTR) and exhibits neuromodulatory, antinociceptive, antidepressant, anxiolytic, and other activities; it is involved with feelings of trust, memory, intimacy, and fidelity. Oxytocin also inhibits acid-sensing ion channels and may be used as a biomarker of bone mineral density.
