Description
Pancreastatin is an endogenous peptide derived from chromogranin-A that regulates insulin action, inhibiting insulin secretion and increasing glucagon secretion. Pancreastatin binds and inhibits GRP78, decreasing insulin-stimulated glucose uptake and expression of G6Pase. This peptide displays pro-diabetic activity and induces glycogenolysis and lipolysis. Pancreastatin is also used as a biomarker to detect neuroendocrine tumors and shows some correlation with diabetes and hypertension.
