Description

Uroguanylin is an endogenous natriuretic peptide that modulates activity through Na+/H+ exchangers in intestinal and renal tissues, altering electrolyte and water transport. Uroguanylin activates guanylyl cyclase receptors to increase cGMP production. Uroguanylin also increases activity of Cl- channels. Uroguanylin inhibits bicarbonate reabsorption and increases net water secretion through signaling cascades mediated by PKA and PKG.
