Description
Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channels are activated by heat, proton, endovanilloids, endocannabinoids, and inflammatory mediators. TRPV1 is also considered the capsaicin receptor; it modulates neurotransmission and pain/nociceptive signaling. TRPV1 is expressed on neurons in arteries, blood vessels, skin tissues, and in the brain. Activation of TRPV1 may result in skeletal muscle constriction and arterial vasoconstriction.
