Description
Folic acid (vitamin B9) is found in dietary supplements and can be found in food sources such as leafy vegetables; humans are unable to synthesize folic acid and must receive it in their diet. Folic acid is required in the synthesis and repair of DNA, division and growth of cells, and other processes such as spermatogenesis and oocyte maturation. Low folate levels are associated with neurological disorders such as depression and schizophrenia.
