Description
Methotrexate is an antimetabolite that exhibits immunosuppressive, abortifacient, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer chemotherapeutic activities. Methotrexate is clinically used to treat various cancers, ectopic pregnancy, and rheumatoid arthritis. Methotrexate inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, preventing thymidine, DNA, and RNA synthesis. In vivo, methotrexate increases T cell apoptosis, decreases T cell activation, and suppresses cytokine production.
