Description

Pipemidic acid is a pyridopyrimidine antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase; it exhibits antibacterial activity. Pipemidic acid also inhibits ATP-sensitive K+ channels, inducing insulin release in vitro, suggesting potential a potential link to hypoglycemia. High doses of pipemidic acid induce cartilage toxicity (arthropathy) in neonatal mice.
