Description

Streptozocin is a nitrosourea-amino sugar conjugate initially produced by species of Streptomyces that exhibits pro-diabetic, antibacterial, and anticancer activities. Streptozocin is toxic to pancreatic islet β cells and is often used to induce diabetes-like conditions in animal models. Streptozocin has also been examined as a potential treatment for cancers of β cells.
