Description

Tanshinone I is a diterpene found in Salvia that exhibits neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, anti-angiogenic, anticancer chemotherapeutic, and chemopreventive activities. Tanshinone I upregulates expression of IL-4 and IL-13, protecting against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion-induced injury in vivo. Tanshinone I also decreases peroxynitrite-induced DNA damage and radical formation. Additionally, tanshinone I inhibits expression of VEGF, cyclin A, cyclin B, and AurA in various models of lung cancer, inhibiting cellular and tumor growth.
