Description
Umbellulone is one of the principal constituents of essential oils from several plants that exhibit antimicrobial activity. The essential oil of Tanacetum walteri (Anthemideae-Asteraceae) from Iran was found to have antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Umbellulone, the principal compound of Umbellularia californica (California bay laurel), is the primary larvicidal against Aedes aegypti. In addition, Enterococcus faecalis, Proteus mirabiiis and Candida albicans are also susceptible to the oil of the leaves of Cupressus lusitanica Mill from Cameroon that contains umbellulone.
