Description
MG-132 is a proteasome inhibitor that exhibits anti-fibrotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-osteoarthritic activities. In renal interstitial fibroblasts, MG-132 inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis by activating p53, p21, caspase 3, and Bax. MG-132 also inhibits skeletal muscle atrophy in animal models of chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) by preventing degradation of IκB and activation of NF-κB. In other animal models, this compound delays progression of osteoarthritis by inhibiting inflammation in cartilage and synovial tissue.
