Description

β Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (β MSH) is an endogenous POMC-derived peptide in the pituitary involved in energy homeostasis that activates melanocortin receptors. β MSH exhibits anti-inflammatory and anorexigenic activities. In vivo, β MSH decreases the intensity of acetaminophen-induced liver lesions. In other animal models, this peptide increases orexin and corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) levels and decreases food intake.
