Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) (8-37) inhibits the CGRP receptor and is used in research studies to examine the effects of CGRP. CGRP (8-37) inhibits the effects of ghrelin and induces caspase 3-mediated apoptosis in retinal cells of animal models of coronary artery occlusion. Like CGRP, this fragment likely binds RAMP1 and CGRP receptors.
