Description
Phenylbutazone is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 activity; it is no longer used in humans, but was previously used to treat inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and gout. Phenylbutazone exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, and antioxidative activities. In vivo, phenylbutazone decreases edema; in separate cellular models, it inhibits activity of myeloperoxidase.
