Description
Povidone (polyvinyl pyrrolidone polymer) is an antibacterial compound used as a disinfectant in surgical settings. When combined with iodine, povidone exhibits anticancer activity, inhibiting proliferation and inducing necrotic cell death in mesothelioma cells. Povidone may induce depurination and cleavage of DNA. This compound is also occasionally used as a stabilizer in drug formulations.
