Description
Aureothricin is a member of the dithiolopyrrolone family of antibiotics that are synthesized by Streptomyces species. Aureothricin is a chemical analog of thiolutin, another member of this family. The dithiolopyrrolone family members contain a heterobicyclic core with a disulfide bridge between two ene-thiols. The dithiolopyrrolone core gives these antibiotics a characteristic electronically unique stucture.
