Description

Terbutaline is an agonist at β2-adrenergic receptors and is clinically used to treat asthma and cough. Terbutaline exhibits anti-tussive, anti-asthma, anti-allergic, tocolytic, and bronchodilatory activities. In vivo, terbutaline inhibits the production of TNF-α, improving pain/allodynia symptoms. In other animal models, terbutaline inhibits the cough response via modulation of cAMP and PKG signaling. Terbutaline also inhibits expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone in trophoblasts. In alveolar epithelial cells, this compound stimulates activity and increases expression of epithelial Na+ channels (ENaCs).
