Description
(±)-Goitrin is a bioactive component found in cruciferous vegetables and other plants such as Isatis indigotica. In a study using a rat model, the presence of (±)-goitrin in the diet resulted in a hypothyroid state. The biological activities of the individual enantiomers are curiously different from one another, with one enantiomer responsible for an antiviral effect and the other enantiomer responsible for an antithyroid effect.
