Description

β-Naphthoflavone is an agonist at the aryl hydrocarbon receptor and an inducer of phase II enzymes. β-Naphthoflavone exhibits anticancer and chemopreventive activities but also displays tumor-promoting activity in other models. In animal models, β-naphthoflavone inhibits cigarette smoke-induced DNA damage and tumor development. In breast cancer cells, this compound induces G0/G1 phase cell cycle arrest, downregulates expression of cyclin D1, cyclin D3, and CDK4, upregulates expression of p21, inhibits PI3K/Akt signaling, and activates MAPK/ERK signaling.
