Description

7-Methyl-6-mercaptopurine is a thiopurine antimetabolite and derivative of 6-mercaptopurine; it exhibits immunosuppressive, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer chemotherapeutic activities. This compound is clinically used to treat inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD), Crohn’s disease, and leukemias and lymphomas. This compound suppresses metabolism of inosine monophosphate (IMP), inhibiting phosphoribosylpyrophosphate amidotransferase; this prevents synthesis of purines, DNA, and RNA.
