Description

Flumequine is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic commonly used in veterinary medicine. Flumequine exhibits antibacterial efficacy through the inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase. This compound also displays other activity, inhibiting GABA-A receptors in the ileum, and displays cancer-related activity in the liver, although reports conflict as to whether flumequine is chemopreventive or carcinogenic. Additionally, this compound was previously explored as a treatment for urinary tract infection in humans, although is not currently used in that manner.
