Description
Fluphenazine is a typical piperazine antipsychotic that is clinically used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and dementia. Fluphenazine acts as an antagonist at D2 receptors. Fluphenazine also exhibits arrhythmogenic activity, increasing action potential duration and inducing QT prolongation by decreasing current amplitude of human ether-related-a-go-go (hERG) K+ channels. This compound acts as a functional inhibitor of acid sphingomyelinase (FIASMA).
